The Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration programme (AVRR) is one of IOM’s core programmes that provides administrative, logistical, and financial support, including reintegration assistance, to Mongolian nationals from abroad to help them settle and reintegrate in the country. The AVRR consists of three stages: 1) Pre-departure: return information provision, health screening if required, facilitating travel documentation, and pre-departure assistance; 2) Departure: movement coordination, transit assistance, escort assistance, etc. 3) Post-arrival and Reintegration: reception and post-return counseling, inland transportation, health-related support, and provision of reintegration assistance.
Through the programme, IOM has supported the safe return of over 8,000 women, men, and children to Mongolia from around 40 countries and provided post-arrival assistance to over 3,000 Mongolian citizens, based on their financial, housing, health, and psychosocial needs within one year since their arrival. Building on the experience and a worldwide network of offices and partners, IOM’s AVRR programme strives to ensure that migrants in need are assisted to return voluntarily, safely, and in dignity, and are supported in achieving sustainable reintegration, in full respect for human rights, regardless of their status. The AVRR programme forms a vital component of the safe, orderly return of international migration policy.
