Human trafficking occurs across borders and also within the Mongolian border. Mongolian girls and young women are the main victims of human trafficking - mainly for sexual exploitation or commercially brokered marriages - but there are cases of men and women subjected to forced labor. IOM has supported the Government of Mongolia and non-government organizations in fighting internal and transnational trafficking in human beings in Mongolia since 2008. IOM Mongolia implements the following activities to improve government response to trafficking and combat human trafficking in Mongolia:

  • Safe repatriation of Mongolian victims from abroad
  • Direct assistance to victims of trafficking
  • Capacity building trainings among law enforcement officials and service providers
  • Prevention and awareness raising activities
  • Research

IOM Mongolia is a member of the National Sub-Council against Trafficking, established in 2014, and will continue to cooperate closely with governmental and non-governmental organizations, research institutes, and the private sector to fight human trafficking.
