IOM Mongolia celebrates the UN Day
Ulaanbaatar - IOM Mongolia celebrated the United Nations Day on October 24 throughout the corresponding week from October 21 to October 25, 2024.
On October 22, IOM Mongolia organized a meeting with the students from Animal Husbandry and Biotechnology School, in collaboration with the Mongolian University of Life Sciences. IOM Mongolia's Chief of Mission a.i. Daniel Sam had a discussion with the freshmen and sophomores of the school on climate change and migration. The session inspired the youth in Mongolia to act on climate change and raised awareness of migration-related issues.
On October 24, Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, visited the United Nations House to commemorate the day. The UN Country Team introduced the United Nations' endeavors to tackle Mongolia's dire challenges and reaffirmed the partnership between the UN Mongolia and the Government of Mongolia for sustainable and inclusive development of Mongolia.
After the Prime Minister's visit to the UN House, UN Mongolia hosted events to engage with the stakeholders: private sector and youth. Tapan Mishra, the Resident Coordinator of UN Mongolia, opened the panel discussion session with the private stakeholders with remarks on partnership with the private sector and Global Compact. The discussion session on partnering with the private sector for inclusive and sustainable development was moderated by Bayasgalan Saranjav, Secretary General of the Mongolian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI). Ambassador of Germany Helmut Rudolf Kulitz, Co-Founder and Head of the ICT group Lkhamsuren Ganbold, Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto Mongolia LLC Amarjargal Khenchbish, Deputy Representative of UNDP Mongolia Lin Cao, and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Trade and Development Bank Sergelen Nyamdorj shared their opinions on the partnerships between the United Nations and private sector.
The next session of the UN Day aimed to engage with the young generations, under the theme of partnering with youth for leveraging science, technology and innovation for future generations. Over 70 youth participated and shared their experiences and inspirations to shape the future of Mongolia.
October 25 was celebrated as the UN Staff Day. A townhall meeting was organized for the whole staff of UN Mongolia to gather and commemorate the day. Two staff from IOM Mongolia, Oyuunbileg Rentsendorj and Orlomajav Bazar, was honoured with the UN Long-Service Award during the townhall meeting this year.
