Reaching over 4,000 internal migrants through Information Days
Ulaanbaatar – Access to reliable and comprehensive information is crucial to ensuring safe and orderly internal migration. Within this framework, IOM has organized Information Days in nine aimags and the capital city of Ulaanbaatar in cooperation with local NGOs.
The “Should I Stay of Should I Go? Plan Well” Information Days were organized as part of the second phase of IOM’s internal migration information campaign, titled “Should I Stay or Should I Go? Research It!” that reached over 2 million people in 2021.
Through the Information Days, 13 NGOs across the country worked to inform people on the importance of well-planned migration decisions, encourage them to register in their place of residence, and mobilize them to seek more information from official sources, targeting existent and prospective migrants at major market areas. The Information Days were organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and the General Authority for State Registration, with representatives from local administration participating in the Information Days to provide information on registration and social welfare services.
Over the week of 6-12 June 2022, the NGOs reached over 4,100 people, delivering tailored information on the risks and opportunities associated with migration, registration and other public services, and common forms of labour exploitation.
IOM will continue its efforts to raise awareness on responsible and informed migration through organizing a series of targeted information campaigns on registration, land ownership etc., and continue to work with local NGOs across the country to improve service and information provision for migrants.
This initiative was under the “Understanding and Managing Internal Migration in Mongolia” project implemented with support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
